The head office of the NGA is in the centre of Birmingham, where a small professional staff provide a service to members and manage the business life of the association.

Emma Knights, Chief Executive

Emma Knights joined the NGA in January 2010.

Emma was previously the joint CEO of the Daycare Trust.  Before joining the Daycare Trust Emma worked in a number of roles in the voluntary sector, particularly in the advice sector and has previously worked for the Legal Services Commission and the Local Government Association, leading projects on child poverty and educational attainment.   Emma is a parent governor at her children’s secondary school.

Gillian Allcroft, Policy Manager

Gillian Allcroft is Emma's deputy and the policy manager for the NGA. Gillian worked for the National Governors' Council prior to its merger with the National Association of School Governors to form the NGA. Prior to that she worked for the then DfES.

Dawn Pheasey, Office Manager

Dawn Pheasey is the NGA's office manager. Dawn worked for the National Association of School Governors prior to its merger with the National Governors' Council to form the NGA. Dawn runs the office, deals with membership matters and organises NGA conferences.

Lisa Richards, Finance Officer

Lisa Richards is the NGA finance officer with responsibility for financial management and reporting. Lisa works part time for the NGA.

Philip Wood, Information Officer

Philip works as an information officer for NGA answering advice calls and emails, as well as writing briefings, consultation responses and good practice documents. Prior to NGA, Philip worked for a number of advice bodies, such as Newcastle Citizens Advice Bureau and the Student Law Office.

Laura Owen, Information Officer

Laura is an Information Officer with the NGA. She deals with communications, including the magazine, bulletin board and website, as well as helping to write guidance documents and consultation responses. Before joining the NGA, Laura was studying for a degree at the University of Warwick.
