Best Practice Network

Best Practice Network works with directly with governors and school leaders to deliver better outcomes for children and young people. Our school Improvement service is based on solution focussed consultancy designed to enable school governors and leaders to implement solutions to their own particular challenges.

Our aim is to provide advice and support that is school-centred in order to ensure that improvement is rapid, systemic and sustainable. We are a values led and practice based organisation that is already actively engaged in school improvement, leadership development and improving pedagogy.

Our approach:

We see our role as getting behind the efforts of governors, school leaders and classroom practitioners in order to help them fulfill their roles even more effectively. Some of the core components of our approach to school improvement include:
  • Ensuring that emphasis is placed on finding solutions and not on listing all of the problems.
  • Helping schools build upon its existing good practice.
  • Co-constructing plans that will help deliver rapid, systemic and sustainable improvement

What we offer:

Our service is intended to be flexible enough to suit the needs of the governing body or school leadership team. When and where appropriate the advice and support might include:
  • Governor support and training
  • Support and advice for the headteacher's performance management process
  • Pre and post-Ofsted advice and support

Governors E-Learning GEL

Governor E-Learning (GEL) is an online learning experience providing school governors with a flexible way to access information and training.  GEL supplies high-quality, accurate and value-for-money learning through: learning modules, supporting documents and hot topics. Together, these ensure the required support is available to governors at their convenience.

GEL seeks to support governors across all types of schools, including maintained schools, church schools, academies and independent schools. It is essential that the relevance, accuracy and quality of the content of our modules and ‘Hot Topics’ meets the needs of all our GEL members, a membership which reflects this diverse range of school settings.

We generate ideas for new modules and hot topics in a number of ways; we keep a close watch on current policy and changes, we use our Local Authority Editorial Board of governor services managers to feedback on issues of interest and we invite our GEL customers to talk to us about issues that they wish to see addressed on GEL.

This feedback is essential; as it gives confidence that our content is fit-for-purpose for our customers and meets their needs. The high quality and accuracy of our learning materials, at an affordable price, is what sets GEL apart from similar products in the market place. GEL has been developed and is run by the Eastern Leadership Centre, a not for profit charitable organisation based in Cambridge.
