NGA Policy and Manifesto

NGA policy is formulated by the elected board of the association. Any individual governor, governing body or governors' association in membership can influence NGA policy through feedback, representation and debate at regional and national meetings and through electronic contact.

The NGA promotes the work of governors at the national level. We meet regularly with Government and the major educational bodies to ensure that the views of governors are fully represented in the national arena.

NGA’s manifesto:   Every child deserves a good school; every community needs good schools

The National Governors’ Association is calling for:

  1. The issue of school governance to be given greater prominence in central and local government policy making;
  2. Free mandatory induction training to be provided for all governors;
  3. Additional support for governing bodies, but at the very least maintenance of current local authority governors support services;
  4. The level of school funding to be maintained; funding must be distributed in an equitable, objective and transparent manner;
  5. The National Professional Qualification for Headship to include a mandatory module on governance;
  6.  A reduction in the number of new initiatives from central government and a period of relative stability to allow schools to continue to improve.
