The National Governance Association is the national membership organisation for state-funded school governors and trustees in England.
We aim to represent school governors and trustees from all state funded schools in England; including those from LA maintained schools and academies. We are an independent charity that aims to improve the educational standards and well-being of children and young people through supporting and promoting outstanding governance in all state-funded schools, including academies and free schools. The NGA is not aligned to any political party; we work closely with, and lobby, government and the major educational bodies to ensure that the views of governors and trustees are fully represented in the national arena.
As the only representative body for school governors and trustees, we take our responsibilities seriously; we want to represent all governors and trustees as effectively as possible. You can make your governing body’s voice heard by joining the NGA.
The NGA is a company limited by guarantee. We have a board of trustees who are volunteer governors from across England. We do not receive any funding from government, so membership fees are vital to the success of the organisation. The organisation is run by the chief executive, Emma Knights, and her deputy, Gillian Allcroft.
