Reviewing governing board effectiveness - the options

It is important that every governing board reviews its performance as a whole and NGA recommend that this exercise is carried out internally annually.

Governing boards may also wish for an external perspective on their performance, or an external review may be recommended by Ofsted.

There are a multitude of ways that NGA can assist governing boards in assessing their effectiveness. NGA's consultants can conduct external reviews of governance for schools and help schools to facilitate their own reviews. NGA has also developed an online tool to assist governing bodies in self-evaluation. Further detail on all of these options is below.
