It is important that every governing board reviews its performance as a whole and NGA recommend that this exercise is carried out internally annually. Governing boards may also wish for an external perspective on their performance, or an external review may be recommended by Ofsted.

NGA offers the following options for developing your governing board:
This two hour session covers the competency framework, recruitment procedures and the management of the board
This two hour session is designed as an overview and can be delivered to governors of maintained schools, or trustees of single academy trusts or multi academy trusts.

This two hour session focuses on the governor and trustee role in ensuring that their organisations are safe places for pupils.
This two hour session will raise governors’ and trustees' awareness of the data sources, the extent to which they can be analysed, and other means by which governors and trustees can get to know their school.
This two hour session covers both the requirement to comply with guidance and the practicalities of holding the school to account for the performance of pupils with SEND
This two hour session will develop governors’ and trustees’ understanding of why visits matter, their purpose, and the framework that needs to be established to enable effective visiting to take place.
This two hour session covers the principles of panel work and the practicalities of setting up a panel for complaints, exclusions or disciplinary hearings
This two hour session on the approach governors and trustees should take when questioning and challenging and when, and how, to conduct a courageous conversation
This two hour session will raise governors' and trustees' awareness of their responsibilities for financial oversight, ensuring value for money and making an impact.
