Governors and Panels

The purpose of this training is to inform governors about how to approach panel work, be it hearing formal complaints, reviewing exclusions, or dealing with disciplinary issues.
The session will cover the legal position and the policy and procedures required for each type of panel hearing and how they should be used. It will also esablish how panels are set up, the paperwork that should be provided and how the hearing should be conducted. The session will also clarify the respective roles of the governors, headteacher, clerk and, where relevant, the local authority.
The consultant will liaise with the chair and head to ensure that it is appropriate for the governing board’s specific circumstances. Our consultants are happy to place emphasis on a particular type of panel to meet the specific requirements of the school: be that for a complaint, exclusion or a staffing matter.
