NGA Announces new chief executive

11/12/2009

The National Governors’ Association (NGA) this week announced the appointment of a new chief executive. She is Emma Knights, currently joint CEO of the Daycare Trust. She replaces Phil Revell.

Emma has been joint CEO of the Daycare Trust since June 2006. Before joining the Daycare Trust Emma worked in a number of roles in the voluntary sector, particularly in the advice sector and has previously worked for the Legal Services Commission and the Local Government Association, leading projects on child poverty and educational attainment.   Emma is a parent governor at her children’s secondary school.

‘We are delighted to welcome Emma Knights to the NGA” said Clare Collins, Chair of the NGA. “Emma’s previous work has given her broad experience of providing information and developing policy, as well as working with members and running training and consultancy programmes. We look forward to the prospect of her passion, enthusiasm and energy in promoting the NGA’s purpose and aims.’

Emma Knights said ‘I am extremely pleased to have been appointed to the post of Chief Executive of the National Governors’ Association. The NGA provides extremely important support and guidance for thousands of school governors up and down England who are responsible for ensuring schools are effective. The role of the NGA in supporting governors in their critical role is particularly important in the light of the forthcoming publication of the government’s review into the nature and work of governing bodies. I look forward to contributing to the voice of governing bodies at this pivotal time, in order to ensure that our schools have the best possible opportunity to provide the best possible education for our children.’

Emma Knights will start in the post of Chief Executive of the National Governors’ Association on 1 February 2010.
