NGA Manifesto

15/04/2010

NGA’s manifesto: Every child deserves a good school; every community needs good schools

Today National Governors’ Association publishes its manifesto; we want to raise both the profile of the good work being carried out by school governors across England and the issues which our members care about.

The National Governors’ Association is calling for:

  1. The issue of school governance to be given greater prominence in central and local government policy making;
  2. Free mandatory induction training to be provided for all governors;
  3. Additional support for governing bodies, but at the very least maintenance of current local authority governors support services;
  4.
  5. The level of school funding to be maintained; funding must be distributed in an equitable, objective and transparent manner;
  6. The National Professional Qualification for Headship to include a mandatory module on governance;
  7. A reduction in the number of new initiatives from central government and a period of relative stability to allow schools to continue to improve.

We are asking our members to pass the manifesto onto their local parliamentary candidates and to their elected local representatives or candidates, and any other interested partners.  We would be very interested to hear what response you receive.
