The National Governors’ Association were one of the bodies that drew the select committee’s attention to this issue, and we are pleased that the report is both realistic and comprehensive.
Clare Collins, NGA National Chair said:
“This report is very welcome; The recommendation that key figures in each school should be trained to handle allegations is crucial, and NGA expects that governors, and in particular, Chairs of governors, will be offered such training in the near future.”
Specifically the NGA welcomes:
- The recommendation that independent investigators should be available to help schools deal with serious allegations
- The recommendation that governing bodies should be able to have access to procedural advisors in disciplinary cases arising from allegations
- The recommendation that government should produce simple advice and guidance to schools on this issue
- The MP’s acknowledgement that current guidance is unclear
