This new NGA Guide aims to help Clerks with their role – especially newly appointed Clerks.
Welcome to Clerking covers all the elements of a Clerk’s role including:
- The Clerk as administrator – working with the Chair, creating agendas and writing minutes, ensuring governors’ meetings run smoothly.
- The Clerk as an information manager – creating and storing the records of governing body meetings, ensuring free access for governors, maintaining policies and statutory records.
- The Clerk as an advisor – ensuring that meetings follow clear procedures and decision making is transparent and recorded, ensuring that governing bodies follow appropriate legislation and regulations in their work.
The Clerk has a key role on the Governing Body; it is widely recognised that an effective clerk is an invaluable resource for a governing body. As the national representative body for school governors in England the NGA aims to help clerks with their work. Clerks may join the NGA as individuals, or as members of their governing body.
