Working together to reduce late exams entries

Over the past 12 months, centres have made a committed effort to administer GCSE and A level exams with an increased number of entries for each series. A large number have responded to the task by keeping the total number of entries submitted to awarding bodies after the deadline to a minimum. However, for some centres, getting entries in on time remains a challenge.

School governors play a vital role in raising the profile of the importance of meeting exams entries deadlines with their senior leadership teams who, along with teaching staff, can provide the necessary support to assist the exams office.

The Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) has produced a number of resources to help senior leaders, teaching staff and exams officers reduce late entries. These include exemplar case studies and guidance, templates for collecting information, and online tools, such as the Exam policy generator, Exam fees estimator and Exam review generator.

Submitting entries on time is vital to the overall success of examinations nationally – working together within centres we can make a difference.
