Succession Planning - recruiting, developing and keeping your headteachers

Did you know that a third of head teachers are expected to have retired by 2014?

Governors have an important role to play in ensuring there are sufficient leaders who are ready to take up the complex and challenging role of headship.

Governors can find helpful resources, developed in partnership with the NGA, to help you plan for leadership succession on the website of the National College. There are interactive resources, publications and video clips to support you to find, develop and keep great headteachers.

NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship)
The National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) is the mandatory qualification for first time heads.

You can help by encouraging those who aspire to school leadership and to headship to progress to NPQH, as well as supporting your headteacher to provide placements for trainee heads, and welcoming trainee heads on placement in your school.

For more information go to: http://www.nationalcollege.org.uk/npqh

Models and Partnerships - thinking of new ways to organise your school or work with other schools?

The National College has developed a range of resources to help you chose the right model of schools organisation or partnership for your context.

The College have been working with leaders in schools and local areas to explore and evaluate different models of school leadership. They have developed a range of resources including a variety of case studies to help you explore the different options available to help you and to choose the right model for your context. You can talk these through with one of our expert Models and Partnerships Associates, who can help you free of charge.
