There are three web forums for Governors.
The
Discussion Board on GovernorNet is in our view the best in terms of accurate answers to questions put by forum posters.
The most independent is undoubtedly the
UKGovernor forum
The
Times Educational Supplement has an active
online community, with forums for a wide variety of groups, including
governors. Other TES forums that may be of interest are the
business managers forum, and the
head teachers' forum.
Health Warning
Governors should be aware that all Forums suffer from the lack of accountability that follows from anonymity. In all three forums there are posts offering wildly inaccurate and/or misleading advice – and this is despite the fact that the GovernorNet discussion Board is moderated.
Simple questions generate multiple replies and discussion; yet could often be answered in two clicks of a mouse via Google – or from the information on the websites on this page.
If governors have a question they want answered they would be best advised to ring their local governor services department or
GovernorLine or - dare we say it - the NGA.
If governors want to engage with the governor community the NGA suggests they join – or help set up – a
local governor association. That will lead to meaningful contact with real people, and, potentially, the opportunity to have an influence on events and policy.
