The 2009 NGA Awards were held at Birmingham's Council House on March 21st.

The Governance Award

This award is for governing bodies who have demonstrated real leadership. In making these Awards the NGA aims to celebrate good school governance and spread examples of best practice throughout the school governor community.

The winner in the Challenging Circumstances category was:

Earlham High School - Norwich

The NGA Award for Outstanding Clerks

This award was organised in partnership with Governor Wales and the Welsh Assembly. The Award is sponsored by The Department for Children Schools and Families.

The Clerk of the Year 2009 was:

Joy Redfern - Heatherside Infant School, Fleet, Hampshire

The Clerks Award is a prestigious NGA award that has been offered bi-annually since 2003 and has done much to raise the profile of governing body clerks. In making this Award the NGA is looking to celebrate good practice in governing body clerking in maintained schools in England and Wales.

The main sponsors for the NGA Awards are The Department for Children, Schools and Families AND the Navigate Group.

The NGA awards are bi-ennial - the next Awards will be in March 2011. Entry criteria will be available in January 2010.
