In appointing the headteacher the governing body sets the scene for the leadership and management of the school. Governing bodies need to be properly trained to ensure that they are equipped to make this most vital of decisions.
The NGA believes that the governing body should be actively involved in all appointments to a school's senior management team while retaining oversight of staffing decisions.
Staffing levels are inextricably linked to resources and it is important that schools receive sufficient resources to deliver high quality education.
