NGA Papers - Staffing

GOVERNING BODIES AND STAFFING

People are the most important resource, and that is as true for schools as it is for any other organisation. This matters for governors because they have overall responsibility for all staffing matters in their schools.

The governing body is responsible for setting the staffing and management structure of the school on the advice of the head teacher.

This Paper aims to guide governors through the process of appointing, paying and performance managing their staff. This is a complex area of school leadership and governors should not attempt to deal with staffing issues without advice and guidance.
