The Department for Education's Advisory Group on Governance (AGOG) advises and assists the Department. AGOG provides a forum for representatives to raise and discuss issues of general principle and detail affecting school governance. It has the following aims:

  • To provide a forum for members to raise and discuss issues of general principle and detail affecting school governance, in particular on ways of improving the effectiveness of school governing bodies and their role in promoting high standards of educational achievement.
  • To advise and assist the Department for Education in the development of national initiatives concerning training, supporting and recruiting school governors.
  • To promote and advise on improved arrangements for collaboration, partnership working and promoting best practice.
  • To enable the DfE to keep members informed about national initiatives affecting governing bodies.
