Advice

As part of GOLD governing board membership, your governing board will receive access to expert confidential, independent legal and procedural advice. Our highly experienced advice team is available to deal with any queries you may have, big or small.


Adelaide Chitanda, Information Officer 

Adelaide Chitanda is an information officer at the NGA. She provides advice to Gold members via email and telephone, alongside writing for the website, magazine and weekly newsletter.

Prior to joining the NGA, Adelaide studied Criminology at the University of Manchester.

Michael Barton, Advice Officer 

Michael Barton is an advice officer at the NGA. He provides advice to Gold members via email and telephone, alongside writing for the website, magazine and weekly newsletter. His policy specialisms are disadvantage, pupil premium and clerking.

Prior to joining the NGA, Michael studied History and Politics at the University of Warwick.

Rani Kaur, Interim Head of Advice

Rani is Interim Head of Advice at the NGA. Her roles include overseeing the Advice team and answering advice calls and emails. The advice service offers strategic, procedural, best practice and legal information about governance.

Rani leads on policy in the areas of Clerking and SEND and regularly contributes to the NGA weekly newsletter and Governing Matters magazine.

Before joining the NGA, Rani read Law at the University of Birmingham.

William Markey, Information Officer

Will is an information officer at the NGA. He provides advice to Gold members via email and telephone, alongside writing for the website, magazine and weekly newsletter.

Prior to joining the NGA, Will studied International Relations with Political Science at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Samuel Tranter, Information Officer 

Samuel Tranter is an Information Officer at the NGA. He provides advice to Gold members via email and telephone, alongside writing for the website, magazine and weekly newsletter. His specialist policy areas include admissions, behaviour, complaints, data protection, and governor effectiveness.

Prior to joining the NGA, Sam received his PhD from the University of St Andrews, where he was tutor in Modern History. He was also employed as historical researcher by the National Theatre of Scotland. He was previously educated at Aberystwyth University and King’s College London.
