ISCG Accredited Clerk and qualified Company Secretary to School Governing Boards. I have 20 years’ experience working in Education.
I work with Primary and Secondary maintained schools and Colleges as well as a range of both Multi Academy Trusts and Single Academy Trusts.
As Clerk and Company Secretary I have supported Governing Bodies through the Academy conversion process, liaising with MATs, Sponsors, stakeholders, government organisations and legal bodies.
I work closely with Headteachers/Principals/CEOs/MATs and Chairs of Governing Boards, providing a highly professional and confidential service in all aspects of governance. I am also frequently involved in the convening of extraordinary and panel meetings such as pupil exclusions, parental complaints and staffing/HR hearings and appeals.
As the regulations for maintained schools, church schools, MATs, SATs and LGBs differ so greatly, an essential part of my role is to provide bespoke advice on statutory compliance to all of my clients. In order to maintain a sound understanding therefore, I am committed to CPD and attend termly governance training sessions. I am also a member of the NGA and various Clerking networks where I am able to effectively organise the workload of Governing Boards, obtain resources and co-ordinate governor recruitment.
In addition to the Clerking networks I am part of, I also work closely with National Leaders of Governance (NLGs) and I am a Governor at a local primary school.
As a self-employed Clerk and established sole trader, I have an enhanced DBS certificate. I pay my own overheads and contributions and have professional indemnity insurance for £1m.
Please refer to my website for details of the schools and academies I work with, along with personal testimonials from Headteachers and Chairs of Governors

I travel up to 45 minutes from my home address with remote clerking also available via my subscription to Zoom or Microsoft Teams anywhere in the United Kingdom

I initially became a Governor in 1998 and subsequently a Chair of Governors in a primary school. I was also appointed to a secondary school in special measures as an LA Governor where I was Chair of Personnel Committee.

I have worked with schools in special measures as a clerk on Interim Executive Boards. In 2006, I decided to start my own business as a Self-Employed Governance Professional. I currently clerk single academies, multi academy trust boards and maintained schools across counties in addition to working remotely anywhere in the UK.

I undertake ad hoc work for a Pupil Discipline Committee and Complaints Committee and advise governors on their role under DfE guidance on Exclusions and Complaints guidance.

I clerk Staff Dismissal Committees but although I have HR experience, I can only advise governors to take HR advice as and when necessary. I undertake to complete the notes from these meetings professionally in the event they be required for an employment tribunal.

I have indemnity insurance as a Governance Professional/Clerk to Governors.

I have been a clerk to governors since 2012 and currently work for a junior school. Previously I also clerked for a primary for four years until they joined a federation. My current school holds meetings on Tuesday afternoons so ideally I am looking for work on a different day of the week in the afternoon or evening.

I have experience of all aspects of clerking including taking accurate minutes, advising governors on compliance and procedures, record-keeping and drafting agendas. My initial training was provided by Newport Educational.

My undergraduate degree from Warwick is in English literature and I also have a postgraduate diploma in journalism.

I would be particularly interested in clerking for schools and academies in the SO15 and SO16 postcodes. I would be pleased to hear from you and the best way to contact me in the first instance is by email.

I have been a Clerk since 2009 and have recently achieved the National Clerk Accreditation, with Merit. I am currently a Clerk to the Governing Body of a free school, an academy, a maintained school and a maintained nursery.

I have covered hearings, appeals and disciplinary meetings as well as Governing Body meetings. I have Pitman shorthand skills of 150 words per minute so can cover meetings where a tape recorder is not allowed. I advise my Governing Bodies on new legislation on a regular basis and can turn minutes around next day if needed. I live in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands but have transport and I am happy to travel.
