Ofsted is the body which inspects education and training for learners of all ages and inspects and regulates care for children and young people.
Ofsted is a non-ministerial department, meaning that it operates independently of the Department for Education and is accountable directly to parliament.
Over the past few years Ofsted has put an increasing emphasis on the effectiveness of governance when inspecting schools and academies. This section sets out what Ofsted expects from governing boards and how to improve practice to meet these expectations.
