All schools in England should have an up to date sex and relationships (SRE) policy and this is a statutory obligation for all maintained schools. The PSHE Association has produced this document to help schools to draft this policy or to review their existing policy. It should be read alongside the Secretary of State’s 2000 guidance on SRE which schools must have regard to when putting together such a policy. The PSHE Association also strongly recommends that colleagues familiarise themselves with the resources on the Sex Education Forum website which provides comprehensive information and guidance for schools on SRE.
Read the new Governing Matters article, ‘A Curriculum for Life’ by Jonathan Baggaley, chief executive of the PSHE association.
