This guide has been updated for 2020. Whilst the content covered is as per the 2018 version, the guide is now more concise, with a format that reflects the cyclical nature of the appraisal process.

- Part A – appraisal policy and forming an appraisal panel
- Part B – monitoring performance, setting objectives and the annual appraisal meeting
This guidance is suitable for governing boards in all types of schools, working with a headteacher, executive leader, principal or chief executive.
This guidance was updated on 13th October to include links to the DfE's updated Headteachers' standards
