NGA's annual school governance survey
NGA has been running an annual survey of school governors and trustees across England since 2011. The aim of the survey is, in the absence of any official data or academic research, to provide an overview of the state of school governance in England and also to gather the views, and understand the concerns, of those who govern.
NGA uses the results to promote the voices of those governing within the education sector, focus its priorities based on need and produce the best resources and tools to help and support governing boards in delivering excellent and effective governance.
The findings of the study have been regularly featured in NGA's Governing Matters magazine, available to NGA members, and in full reports since 2017 which you can find below.
