The Independent was first this week to publish an exclusive interview with NGA’s Chief Executive, following up a discussion at North of England Education Conference when Emma Knights raised the difficulties some governing bodies were having in recruiting headteachers. Emma told The Independent that the numbers of schools needing to re-advertise headteacher posts showed that faith schools, small rural schools and special schools often had difficulty.  In our 2013 survey of governors, over one quarter of governing bodies reported finding “it very difficult to attract good candidates when recruiting to senior staff posts at our school.”
