Leading Governance Development for Chairs/Governance Professionals programmes
Welcome to Governance LIVE! virtual induction
Training can be delivered via face-to-face and online workshops by NGA consultants. Our workshops are easily accessible and designed to be both interactive and engaging. They provide the opportunity to learn with fellow governors and trustees on a virtual or face-to-face basis.
Session impact
The success of any good governing board starts with the people around the table.
With a responsibility not just to the schools governed but also the pupils within them, all board members from the chair to the clerk need to have the right qualities and skills to govern effectively.
This session will look at how to build your board and what makes it a success.
The purpose of the session
The Department for Education’s (DfE) Governance Handbook makes it clear that all governing boards need ‘people with the right skills, experience, qualities and capacity’ to carry out the role effectively and this reflects our experience at the NGA. This means robust and transparent recruitment processes, active succession planning and the employment of a professional clerk to provide expert advice and guidance.
The Competency Framework for Governance goes further, detailing the knowledge, skills and behaviours that governors and trustees need. For many boards this is no small challenge; this session will give you practical guidance on sourcing, recruiting, inducting and retaining governors, trustees and your clerk.
