Emma Balchin – Director of Professional Development
As well as being NGA's director of professional development, Emma has over 20 years' experience in education, leadership and school improvement. She is currently chair of a pupil referral unit which she supported on its improvement journey from special measures to good. Part of this improvement was ensuring adequate admission arrangements and outreach support to mainstream settings were in place, to ensure the PRU was an effective intervention, not an educational destination. She is passionate about reducing exclusions to give some of the most vulnerable children in society better life chances.
Dr Samuel Tranter – Senior Advice Officer
Sam is a senior advice officer at the NGA. He provides advice to Gold members via email and telephone, alongside writing for the website, magazine and weekly newsletter. Exclusions are one of Sam’s specialist policy areas and he has experience of sitting on exclusion panels and regularly meets with the DfE exclusions team to provide feedback and discuss policy developments.
