Is your governing board ensuring that the workload expectations of the senior executive leader and their staff team are reasonable? Is it taking steps to protect the wellbeing of staff?

In addition to meeting employer’s legal obligations, effective management of workload and wellbeing is essential for maintaining positive morale and productivity and critical to recruiting and retaining quality staff. And when Ofsted visits it will also want to see evidence of effective management and leadership.

Exploring the sorts of issues that many schools and trusts are facing, this bitesized module suggests practical approaches that governing boards can take to get workload and wellbeing management under control.

Paul Aber – Head of Training Development

Paul AberPaul leads and manages NGA’s face to face training, e-learning and funded development programmes for schools and academies.  This includes working alongside NGA's Head of Consultancy recruiting, training and managing NGA’s team of consultants and trainers.

Prior to joining NGA, Paul was centre director at the University of Law in York where his role included strategic planning and quality assurance.

Paul has many years’ experience of governance including maintained schools and academy trusts.

Michael Barton - Senior Advice Officer

Michael Barton

Michael Barton is a senior advice officer at the NGA. He provides advice to Gold members via email and telephone, alongside writing for the website, magazine and weekly newsletter. His policy specialisms are disadvantage, pupil premium and staffing.

Prior to joining the NGA, Michael studied History and Politics at the University of Warwick.
