Elton is a National Leader of Governance (NLG) and delivers external reviews of governance and support for schools and academy trusts through the National Leaders for Governance programme. This is funded by the Department for Education (DfE)and delivered by the National Governance Association (NGA).
Elton is also an NLG in the Further Education (FE) sector working for the FE Commissioner since January 2020. Elton is a seasoned business veteran with over 30 years’ experience in the IT Sector working with customers in the finance and government sectors. He now follows a passion for education as the key enabler for social mobility and increased productivity in our society.
As NLG in the FE sector, Elton works with chairs from FE colleges nationally to review governance and provide active support to help organisations emerge from DfE intervention successfully.
Elton’s first governance role was parent governor at a local authority maintained school. In seven years on the board, he became chair and led conversion to a single academy trust. He then joined and eventually chaired the board of a sixth form college. He helped secure £35m to build a new sixth form college which is now part of a multi academy trust (MAT). Elton is currently chair of a MAT and a college which form collective of post-16 education providers, sharing the same strategic aims to provide outstanding vocational and academic excellence to over 15,000 students across the region.
Elton has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Warwick University.
