NGA’s online self-evaluation for boards, chairs and governance professionals is an efficient and effective method for reviewing and evaluating different aspects of governance.
Simple to set up, the online self-evaluations automatically collates and analyses results which provides valuable insight, confidential feedback, and demonstrates that the board takes its performance seriously.
Why self-evaluate?
The Governance Handbook advises boards to evaluate themselves on a routine basis. NGA recommends that governing boards self-evaluate annually to help them:

NGA board self-evaluation
The online self-evaluation uses NGA’s question sets covering key areas of practice including the core functions of board culture and practice, structure, core functions and impact.
The self-evaluation is completed by all board members, senior executive leaders, and the governance professional.
NGA’s online board self-evaluation includes:
- guidance on how to set up and run the self-evaluation

NGA self-evaluation question sets for governing boards:
- 20 questions for single school governing boards
- 21 questions for multi academy trust boards
- 16 questions for academy committees (local governing bodies)
The online board self-evaluation costs:
- £220 for NGA GOLD members
- £250 for NGA Standard members and non-members
MATs can purchase a whole MAT self-evaluation package by adding to their board self-evaluation order the following questions sets:
- 17 questions for finance, audit and risk committees at an additional cost of £99
and/or
- 16 questions for academy committees (LGBs) at an additional cost of:
o £695 for up to 10 LGBs
o £950 for 11-20 LGBs
o £1,500 for 21-30 LGBs
o £1,750 for 31 or more LGBs
