Learning Link has evolved: a simpler, smarter way to support your development
Keeping up with governance isn’t a one-off task. Expectations change, guidance evolves, and boards are expected to respond with confidence. Training needs to keep pace with that.
Keeping up with governance isn’t a one-off task. Expectations change, guidance evolves, and boards are expected to respond with confidence. Training needs to keep pace with that.
That’s why we’ve updated Learning Link.
Originally launched in 2017, the platform has grown steadily into the trusted source of online learning for governors, trustees and governance professionals. Now, following significant investment and feedback from you, it’s been redesigned to offer a more streamlined and responsive experience.
Built around what you need
As more boards have turned to flexible, on-demand training, we’ve expanded our in-house development team to take full control of how Learning Link is designed and delivered.
This means the platform can evolve more quickly, with improvements shaped directly by how you use it. The focus is on making learning straightforward to access, easy to navigate, and relevant to your role.
What’s new?
The updated Learning Link introduces a number of practical improvements that make a difference day to day:
- A fully integrated experience within your NGA account
- Easier access to modules through the “All e-learning” section
- Faster updates so content reflects the latest guidance
- The ability to allocate learning across your board
- Improved reporting to track progress and engagement
Alongside this, you still have access to a growing library of 50+ hours of e-learning, designed to support both new and experienced governors.

Getting started
Accessing the platform is simple.
Log in via My NGA at the top right of the NGA website, then browse the training directory. You can filter by ‘E-learning’ or explore by topic to find a module that fits your needs.
Click into a module to find out more, and when you’re ready, select ‘Take the module now’ followed by ‘Start Module’.
All our video guides are also available as PDFs that can be accessed here.
Learning that fits around your role
Learning Link is designed to be flexible.
Modules are broken down into manageable units, so you can work through them at your own pace. Your progress is saved automatically, making it easy to return and continue when it suits you.
Once completed, certificates are available to download, and all of your activity, including assigned modules, can be found in My NGA > My e-learning.
Continued development
This update is part of a wider programme of investment in governance training.
Recent and upcoming modules include Health & Safety, Prevent Duty, and GDPR, ensuring boards can access essential learning in one place. We are also developing new content to support schools that are not yet part of a multi-academy trust, helping boards understand the process, key considerations, and what to expect.
Safeguarding content will continue to be refreshed, including shorter pathways for those who need a concise update.
