Dr Stephen Hopkins

Stephen supports schools and trusts through governance reviews, training and development programmes, strengthening governance consultancy projects and MAT CEO performance management. He works with governing boards across a range of settings, including primary, secondary and special schools. Stephen is a specialist in MAT governance.
He has been a school governor and trustee and Member for over thirty years and has served as the chair of three academy trusts. His consultancy work includes supporting trusts with strategic planning, performance reviews, organisational change, governance structures, risk assurance and the governance of safeguarding.
Stephen draws on fifty years as an educational professional – including as the headteacher of two schools, a DfE adviser, and an Ofsted inspector.
He believes in the crucial role that good governance plays in securing highly effective schools and is driven to ensure that all schools and trusts have strong governance arrangements in place.
