Ian Clayton
NGA Consultant
Ian is an NGA consultant and education consultant, working as a coach, mentor, and trainer for trustees, governors, and executive leaders. His work includes governance reviews and appraisal reviews for chairs and executive team members. He was awarded an MBE for Services to Education.
Ian’s professional background is in education, having been a principal for over 21 years and later a CEO. He has worked at local, county, and national levels, including as a consultant with the DfE, and is DfE-trained in coaching and mentoring. His leadership experience includes guiding a large 11-18 comprehensive to an Outstanding Ofsted and a national BTEC School of the Year award.
Ian’s governance experience spans secondary and primary phases, including chairing. He is currently a trustee in a large MAT, lead governor in a hospital trust, and has held other directorships.
