Ian Clayton
NGA Consultant
Ian is an educational consultant working as a coach, mentor, and trainer for trustees, governors, and executive leaders. His work includes undertaking external reviews of governance and appraisal reviews for chairs and executive team members. He was awarded an MBE for Services to Education.
Ian's professional background is in education; previously a principal for over 21 years and a CEO. Ian has worked at local, county and national levels, including as a consultant with the DfE. His last school (a large 11-18 comprehensive) achieved an Outstanding Ofsted and BTEC School of the Year. He held LLE status and is DfE-trained in coaching and mentoring.
Ian's governance experience includes secondary and primary phases, including chairing. He is a trustee in a large MAT. Outside of education, he serves as the lead governor in a hospital trust and has held other directorships.
