Judith Rutherford
NGA Consultant
Judith is an NGA Consultant and chartered accountant with extensive governance experience across maintained schools, academies, and multi-academy trusts. Since 2018, Judith supported boards and executive leaders through tailored training, external governance reviews, and strategic development. She previously served as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) for six years, working nationally to strengthen governance practice.
Judith has chaired a school board and currently serves as a trustee within a MAT, where she sits on the audit and risk committee and has experience on finance committees. These roles make effective use of her expertise in financial scrutiny, risk oversight, and strategic assurance.
Judith works closely with both boards and CEOs to foster strong, purposeful relationships that support strategic coherence while maintaining the independence essential to effective governance. She believes governance should be principled, strategic, and inclusive—driving improvement through trust, accountability, and shared purpose.
