Mark Coppel

Mark delivers training, consultancy, and external reviews of governance across all phases of education. He has supported over 50 trusts and schools to improve governance and has facilitated NGA’s Leading Governance programmes for chairs and boards and delivered clerk’s training for teaching schools. A former National Leader of Governance, Mark has chaired multiple types of boards, including interim executive boards, and is currently a trustee of a 27-school multi-academy trust.
His background spans technology management, higher education, and creative learning. He has taught at the University of Sheffield Management School and worked as a business consultant. Since 2006, he has collaborated with local authorities, trusts, and schools to build effective governance. Mark draws on deep, practical experience and strong facilitation skills to help education leaders navigate complex challenges and drive sustainable improvement.
