Ruth Agnew MBE
Strategic Lead for Governance Professionals
As Strategic Lead for Governance Professionals, Ruth is responsible for championing and supporting the role of governance professionals across the education sector. She oversees the organisation’s offer to governance professionals, including the development and delivery of professional development programmes, publications and the management of network meetings and conferences.
Ruth has over twenty years’ experience as a governance professional across both the maintained and academy trust sectors. Her roles have included managing two local authority governor services, working as a self-employed consultant supporting a wide range of schools and trusts, and, most recently, serving as Head of Governance for a large multi-academy trust. She is also an experienced governor and chair, and a former National Leader of Governance and NLG Advocate. In recognition of her services to education, she was awarded an MBE in 2025.
