Governance essentials
These four specialist programmes help new and returning governors and trustees build the knowledge and confidence they need to contribute effectively to their school or trust.
Each programme focuses on the realities of governance in its specific setting, offering clear and practical guidance to help participants understand how to fulfil their responsibilities and make informed decisions from the outset of their governance journey.
We offer two programmes with scheduled dates open for individual booking:
- Multi-academy trusts (MAT) for new and returning trustees.
- Single academy trusts (SAT) for new and returning trustees
And two introductory programmes that can be commissioned to support:
- Local governing boards (LGBs): a focussed flexible programme for MATs looking for training tailored to the governance arrangements of that trust and the specific responsibilities of their local governors.
- Governors in maintained schools: available to local authorities and other organisations to support their governance community as part of their own training offer.
Choose the programme that matches your setting to ensure the right support from day one.
Each programme includes:
Clear, relevant guidance tailored to the type of school or trust you govern.
Interactive sessions that build practical understanding and confidence.
Delivered by experienced governance specialists who bring real-world insight and good practice.
Scenario-based tasks and discussions to help you apply your learning to typical governance challenges.
Handbooks, templates, and NGA publications to support your role beyond the workshops.
Small-group discussion and peer support to share experiences and strengthen understanding.
