Richard Tyndall

NGA Consultant

Richard has been an NGA consultant since 2013, supporting boards through governance reviews, training, and investigations. He has delivered over 200 training sessions, completed 45 external reviews of governance, and undertaken 15 investigations and school organisation projects. He has also chaired many governor panels covering complaints, grievance, capability, and discipline.

His governance experience spans more than 30 years as a parent, co-opted, and local authority governor across primary, secondary, special, and PRU settings. He has chaired governing boards in eight schools.

Richard’s professional background includes serving as a local authority director and over 25 years as a freelance consultant specialising in public sector partnerships. He has also chaired a large youth charity and served for ten years as a lay member of the First-tier Tribunal.

Richard believes good governance keeps children and young people at its centre: hard on the challenges, but supportive of those managing them.
