Navigating the Culture of Ofsted: Empowering Governance Amidst Change

Earlier this year, 51% of you identified Ofsted as the single most significant factor shaping practice within your school or trust. Since then, new proposals and changes to the inspection process have, understandably, caused much confusion. Against the current backdrop, understanding the broader cultural context of Ofsted’s role in education is important now more than ever.
We will discuss:
- The current state of play, which will include a brief overview of proposals and recent changes, and what they mean for your school or trust.
- The ways schools and trusts may focus on long-term school improvement, not just inspection readiness
- How boards may be empowered to fulfil their role as the first line of accountability

Sam has been NGA's Deputy Chief Executive since January 2024 and previously worked as NGA's Director of Policy and Communications. Sam oversees NGA's policy, research, advocacy, external affairs and advice and guidance work. Sam works closely with and deputises for NGA's Chief Executive, leading the organisation to achieve positive change and drive influence at a national level through our policy and influencing work.

Fariha supports the development of NGA's policy and information outputs with a particular focus on multi academy trust governance. Alongside working at NGA, Fariha is undertaking a Masters in Education at the University of Birmingham.
