Training can be delivered via face-to-face and online workshops by NGA consultants. Our workshops are easily accessible and designed to be both interactive and engaging. They provide the opportunity to learn with fellow governors and trustees on a virtual or face-to-face basis.
Session impact
Most board members decide to go into governance because they want to make a real difference to children’s lives.
An aspect of this is ensuring that all students are getting the best education experience possible – including pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This session has been designed to help you understand how you can play a role in ensuring this happens.
The purpose of the session
Governing boards have legal duties in relation to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). These responsibilities can seem daunting, leaving boards not knowing where to start.
At the end of this session, participants should have a thorough understanding of SEND and how they can ensure that those with SEND have their needs met and make the best progress in their school.
What will the session cover?
1. What SEND is and how it is determined
2. The legislation, guidance and policies
3. How SEND is funded
4. Who is responsible for what
5. What governors need to know about the SEND population, progress and measuring impact
