Supporting pupils with medical conditions
Use our checklist to ensure that your policy for supporting pupils with medical conditions is compliant and effective.
Governing boards must ensure that their school has a policy in place for supporting pupils with medical conditions which is readily accessible to parents and school staff.
The aim is to ensure that all pupils with medical conditions, in terms of both physical and mental health, are properly supported so that they can play a full and active role in school life, remain healthy and achieve their academic potential.
Each school in a multi academy trust (MAT) is likely to have their own policy and so the local academy committee will be responsible for this review – check your scheme of delegation.
We recommend that governing boards (or the committee with delegated responsibility) refer to our checklist when reviewing this policy on an annual basis. The checklist sets out policy requirements covering:
- roles and responsibilities
- staff capacity and training
- risk management, planning and procedures
- questions to ask when reviewing the policy
