Results day 2025: A-Level, T-Level and other vocational level 3 results

News
14/08/2025

Thousands of young people across England are receiving their A Level, AS Level, T Level and vocational Level 3 results today.

On behalf of governors, trustees and governance professionals, NGA congratulates every student on their hard work and determination.

This year’s results show:

  • Overall pass rates remain strong, with 98.2% of entries achieving A*–E – up on both 2024 and the pre-pandemic benchmark of 2019.
  • Those achieving A* to A grades rose to 28.2%, up from 27.6% in 2024 and 25.2% in 2019.
  • Mathematics continues to dominate, with over 112,000 entries – more than one in eight A-levels taken – and a 21% increase in uptake over the past decade.
  • Regional gaps persist: London’s A* - A rate (32.1%) is almost 10 percentage points higher than in the North East (22.9%), the widest gap since comparable records began.
  • Gender differences remain: Female students secured more top grades overall, but male students continued to outperform in mathematics, physics and computing.
  • University access for disadvantaged students improved slightly, with entry rates rising from 19.4% in 2024 to 20.0% in 2025, though this remains far below the 45.8% recorded for more affluent peers.

NGA thanks governors and trustees for the crucial part they play in young people’s success, from ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, shaping career education and holding leaders to account for their impact, to ensuring the right pastoral support is in place so every pupil can plan their next steps with confidence.

Whatever the results, governing boards will continue to stand alongside school leaders, staff and families to help every young person take their next step with confidence.

We wish the class of 2025 every success for the future.

Emma Balchin, NGA Chief Executive, said:

“As students across the country open their A Level, AS Level, T Level and vocational results today, we celebrate the hard work, determination and resilience that have brought them to this moment. For some, today will be filled with joy, for others it may bring challenges, but every student should feel confident that a wealth of opportunities and pathways lie ahead.

We thank school leaders, teachers and support staff for their tireless dedication, creativity and care in guiding students through these important years.

Yet we cannot lose sight of the long-term picture. Attainment gaps are deeply rooted – at Key Stage 4, disadvantaged pupils still achieve significantly lower average scores, with the disadvantage gap index stubbornly high at 3.92. These early inequalities continue to shape post-16 outcomes and access to opportunity.

The task ahead is to remove the barriers, economic, geographical and systemic, that still limit opportunity. To every student receiving results today: you have shown commitment, courage and perseverance. Congratulations, and our very best wishes for the journey ahead.”
