By the end of this module you will understand the key differences and challenges that arise when working in a MAT setting at local governance tier level.

You will also understand:

  • Where to find and how to use the relevant lay, regulations and guidance
  • How to work within the governance structure of the organisation
  • How to work within the clerking structure of the organisation
  • How to work with the appropriate organisation staff
  • How to apply existing clerking competencies in a new context
Study time: Approximately 2 hrs

Clerking in a maintained school or trust setting and want to step into working at the local governance tier level in a multi academy trust, but not sure what to expect?

Broken down into seven key topics this module provides the bridge to clerking in this new setting. Using a mix of film contributions from experienced practitioners, practical activities and immersive consolidation tasks, you will develop a sound understanding of the rules, practices and governance environment you can expect to find on day one. The module also includes useful templates and links to further resources to help you hit the ground running.

Claire MitchellClaire Mitchell – NGA Consultant

Claire is an NGA consultant, delivers sessions for NGA Training, and facilitates on the NGA Leading Governance development programmes for chairs and clerks.

Claire has over a decade of experience within education and skills and has held a number of senior leadership roles within education, including managing ESFA funded learning provision in excess of £10million for 150+ education and skills providers. Claire also has experience as a designated safeguarding lead.

Claire is passionate about supporting trustees and governors in their volunteer roles, and has a wealth of experience working in academy and maintained school settings.

Paul Aber – Head of Training Development

Paul AberPaul leads and manages NGA’s face to face training, e-learning and funded development programmes for schools and academies.  This includes working alongside NGA's Head of Consultancy recruiting, training and managing NGA’s team of consultants and trainers.

Prior to joining NGA, Paul was centre director at the University of Law in York where his role included strategic planning and quality assurance.

Paul has many years’ experience of governance including maintained schools and academy trusts.
