A 360 is an alternative form of feedback to a conventional one-to-one assessment with a line manager. This makes it particularly suitable for those not working in a traditional line management situation.
The NGA 360 appraisal draws on information from a number of respondents via a questionnaire which aims to collect a range of information about the chair and the various aspects of her/his work against leadership competencies. The data from the completed questionnaires then forms a report which provides an analysis of the chair’s current performance. The report aims to offer comprehensive information regarding areas of strength, as well as areas where improvement may be required.
After purchasing the 360, not only will the chair complete the 360 process, but they will also have a telephone mentoring session with an NGA consultant. This discussion with a governance expert will help the chair to analyse the report and reflect on their comptetancies, as well as helping them to identify next steps for their development. This will help ensure even better quality leadership of the governing board.
You can read more about the 360 process in a recent Governing Matters article: 'The role of the chair' (May 2015)
