A good quality relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) curriculum provides young people with the information they need to build healthy relationships with others and to make informed decisions about their bodies and lives.

In 2025, the Department for Education (DfE) published updated statutory guidance for RSHE. Schools and trusts must ensure their curriculum and policies reflect these updated requirements for September 2026.

Our RSHE guide supports governing boards to fulfil their role in ensuring that RSHE provision is compliant and meets the needs of all pupils. It covers:

  • the legal duties relating to RSHE
  • developing an effective policy
  • the role of governing boards
  • monitoring RSHE in your school or trust
