School admissions: the governing board's role
Understand what determining admissions arrangements means in practice.

Governing boards who act as admission authorities – and are therefore responsible for admission arrangements in their school/trust – need to ensure compliance with The School Admissions Code.
In practice this involves:
- determining admission arrangements that are fair and transparent, particularly for vulnerable or disadvantaged children
- ensuring that admission arrangements are published (on the school/trust website)
- consulting on any changes to admission arrangements, and where no changes are made, consulting at least every seven years
