Promoting school leaders' wellbeing
An evaluation tool to help boards reflect on the wellbeing of school leaders, their self-care and how this is modelled throughout the school/trust.
Headteachers and CEOs work in a challenging environment with limited resources and high levels of accountability. In this context, it is important for leaders to feel supported by a governing board that plays its part in limiting unnecessary stress, challenging excessive working hours and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
This evaluation tool focuses on the wellbeing of school leaders, their self-care and how this is modelled throughout the school/trust. It prompts governing boards to consider and take action on:
- governing board awareness of wellbeing issues
- dedicated time and resource for headteacher/CEO development
- leadership capacity across the school/trust
- access to, and use of, professional support for the headteacher/CEO
- the impact of discussions between the governing board and headteacher/CEO
