Allergies are medical conditions where the body adversely reacts to normally harmless substances. Allergies should be considered as part of a school's wider arrangements for supporting pupils with medical needs. However, schools are required to have a dedicated allergy safety policy, reflecting the particular risks associated with allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.

Allergy safety is a crucial part of creating a safe and inclusive school environment. Governing boards need to seek assurance that effective arrangements are in place to manage and reduce the risks posed by allergy in their schools and trusts.
