Persons with significant control

How to identify and record persons with significant control in an academy trust.

Guidance
24/05/2022

Academy trusts are charitable companies limited by guarantee. This means they are required to keep a register of individuals that have control of them – known as persons with significant control (PSCs) – and disclose certain information to Companies House.

Carrying out these actions is the responsibility of the trust’s company secretary (often the lead governance professional). Companies House PSC guidance provides detailed advice and additional resources to support the process.

This page covers:

  • how to identify persons with significant control
  • recording information in the PSC register
  • disclosing PSC information to Companies House
  • updating the PSC register
