Capability procedures
How to adopt staff capability procedures and tips for managing an effective capability process.
Governing boards must establish capability procedures that apply when there is serious underperformance which the performance management process has been unable to address.
In most cases, capability procedures are dealt with at line management level and so do not require the involvement of governing boards. However, there are exceptions where board members are required to take part in the process.
Our capability procedures guidance for governing boards covers:
- adopting capability procedures
- the stages of the capability procedure
- taking part in capability meetings and appeals
